"Ancient Wisdom and Modern Solutions"

28 March 2009

During the last three days I have been involved with this conference here in my hometown of Rotorua New Zealand.as the Master of Ceremonies and a Keynote Speaker and would like to thank everyone for your contributions to an outstanding event.

The Renal Society of Australasia National Conference was held at the Rotorua Events Centre and involved over 450 delegates. It was excellently organised by Karin Norman and her team from the Renal Division of Waikato Hospital who prepared this event over the last two years.
From the opening ceremony, organised by the Deputy Mayor of Rotorua, Trevor Maxwell, through to the closing ceremony this conference was simply brilliant.
The many presenters ranged from poster presentations to concurrent sessions, which were excellently chaired and Keynote Speakers from England, Canada and New Zealand.
I have been involved in many conferences and am always impressed by professionals such as those at this conference who endeavour to make a difference in the lives of the people they serve. The consumate commitment of the delegates at this conference to their profession was highly noticeable. One of the outstanding features of this conference for me was the unity of the people in the society, evidenced by the contributions to the "family" times we enjoyed. This sector obviously works hard and plays hard.
The Events Venue here in Rotorua contributed significantly to the success of this conference with delegates remarking on the excellence of diversity offered by this venue.
A part of the diversity included the venue for the outstanding Gala Dinner, a dream come true for Nicky, the foyer for the poster displays, the Bay Trust Forum room which easily catered for our main gatherings and the visual and audio services offered by DYNAMICS, a local company.

It was also obvious to me that this industry enjoys the support of outstanding trade and sponsors such a TEKMED, ROCHE and BAXTER.Their commitment ensures the Renal industry stays at the cutting edge of innovation and research.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved for your kind words, your smiles and the profound level of respect you showed the Maori cultural aspects of the conference, as well as each other.
It is obvious that lessons from the past have become knowledge for events such as these today and have built a very strong future for the future of the Renal Health sector.

I wish the organisers of the Cairns 2010 conference every success.
